Age Gap Relationships: The Case for Marrying an Older Man - The Cut
The generation gap is a familiar word. It means the difference or gap between the old and the young, an unbridgeable gap. The older generation and the younger generation are often at loggerheads with one another and they fail to see eye to eye; the younger generation always indicts the older generation for its failure to understand the younger generation. A generation is a group of people born and living during the same period of time. Every generation has its own norms of behavior, its favorite fashions and slang expressions. Young people today have many advantages and are more vocal and assertive. They are heirs to a hard-won heritage of comfort and relative freedom from want and fear; they are trained up in the teachings of democracy and the brotherhood of man and are inspired by the thought of a nuclear/hydrogen-free existence. Universities and colleges today are factories of unrest. There can be no peace to the Western world so long as these institutions continue to function as mills of sedition. The history of the post-war world, particularly in areas from the Far and the Middle East and from Egypt to Japan has shown that it is the educated young man, contemptuous of the older generation and the mores it acquired, that has been responsible for the suicidal neurosis that has infected their countries with violence and revolutions and has kept sanity and prosperity out of their reach.
Age Difference in RelationshipsThe importance of age differences in romantic relationships have been a topic of debate for a long time in American society. It is not uncommon to see older men with much younger women and it is becoming more and more common to see older women with younger men. Still, many people wonder about whether or not it is a good thing to be in a relationship with a large age gap. The issues that are involved in the subject of age gaps in relationships range from social stigmas, interests, family, time, and more. These potential problems are being discussed by sociologists and the results are being written about in magazines across the country, all trying to answer the question of whether or not age really matters Definition of Generation Gap In recent times, a broad and frequently used term has been that of "the generation gap". This phrase is meant to describe the differences in viewpoints and lifestyles among people of the same age but belonging to different eras. There have always been and will always be differences between the first and the last members of one generation. That is to say, these differences are generational as well. As Piaget puts it, changing social situations bring about "the crisis of adolescence". The members of the same family are bound to have different expectations and aspirations. But after being adolescents, the members of the same family become adults and all these variations seem to disappear. In the present time, we see examples of "the gap" not between divisions such as parents vs. children or adults vs. adolescents, but merely between each individual and society. It is the differences in style, values, moods, language, sex, attitudes, ideas, and mode of dressing and spending which occur with greater intensity now than before, which cause the differences that separate us, as the Z People, from "them". It is not surprising to discuss the reasons which have brought about such a "gap" and the consequences it may have in the future, on our way of living. According to The New York Times “The divorce rate for couples more than five years apart is precisely 18% as opposed to just 3% for couples with slim to no age gap.” Statistics show that these couples get divorced earlier than most couples. Even though a person is allowed to date whoever they want because age is just a number, any more than ten years apart can cause major problems in a relationship, because the relationship is more fragile. The larger the age gap the higher the divorce rate. Ans: The generation gap is a natural phenomenon where people with different values and perspectives clash. What one views as good might not be the same for someone from a different age group. The generation gap is caused due to factors such as technological advancements, the evolution of societal values and cultural norms, changes in communication styles, and other factors. The generation gap is a broader concept and it is essential for us to embrace and bridge this gap. But if something finally goes wrong, you shouldn’t blame the age gap or something like this. It was your own decision; it could have worked out but it didn’t; the age is not to blame – the people are. If everyone were reasonable, responsible and minded his own business – how nice our life would have been. The generation gap is not only the age difference between young people, their parents, and grandparents, but it is also caused by differences in opinion between two generations; it can be differences in beliefs, differences in views like politics, or differences in values.

Dating today differs greatly compared to dating say sixty or even eighty years ago. Dating trends today, such as cohabitation, would be considered insanity or chaos if these patterns were displayed in the 1920’s. Today the majority of persons who date are seeking the outcome of a marriage (although research does not agree with this). Eighty years ago, people dated for fun, pleasure, and recreation (Schwartz 116), and only “popular” people dated (Waller 1937), dating was a rarity, and limited to people in their late teen years or early adulthood. However, today it is quite different from eighty years ago with respect to the purpose of dating, and trends. Dating starts at earlier ages such as
