High Commendation in Global John Locke Essay Competition
Crystal N (QEH, LVI) and Lulu G (QEH, V) have had their essays shortlisted for the Philosophy and Politics categories of the John Locke Institute 2024 Essay Prize.

Named after the renowned philosopher John Locke, the competition encourages young thinkers to sharpen their analytical and writing skills while exploring profound topics that shape our world. Our Essay Competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum. Jennifer Yang (N) was commended for a history essay also submitted to the John Locke Essay Competition. She took part in lectures and a gala awards dinner hosted by the John Locke Institute at Magdalen College, Oxford, where prizes were presented. Cherry submitted another economics essay to the John Locke Institute Essay Competition, and was highly commended for her entry: “Should we abolish the minimum wage?”. Essay competitions are an excellent way for pupils to exercise independent thought, depth of knowledge and clear reasoning, and they provide an opportunity for pupils to present their ideas in a persuasive, well written style. Oundle pupils have risen to the challenge and been recognised for the quality of their submissions.

The candidate who submits the best essay overall will be awarded an honorary John Locke Institute Junior Fellowship, worth £500.
Each essay should address only one of the questions in your chosen subject category, and must not exceed 2000 words (not counting diagrams, tables of data, footnotes, bibliography or authorship declaration).
